100ste Geburtstag, mehr Fotos

Am Samstag feierten die Benzes ihren 100. Geburtstag – zusammengezählt sind sie jetzt 100 Jahre alt. Natürlich gab es ein feines Fest, mit vielen Bekannten und schönem Essen. Und weil ich auch dabei war, gab es natürlich Fotos.
Die Benzes kennen mehr Leute als sie Platz hatten, also gab es zwei Schichten beim Fest. Wir waren in der ersten Schicht, und gingen am Schluss wieder, um beim Aufräumen zu helfen (OK, ich stand mehrheitlich ‘rum und ass noch ein Stuck Dessert. Mary-Anne hat geputzt.) Dazwischen fotografierte ich weiter.

Breaking the mirror

Yesterday, I interrupted my journey home from work to take some photos on a river bank. I’d regularly seen the reflections of the reeds in the river on my way to work in the morning, and wanted to capture them. As it turned out, the breeze was too strong, so the reflections were distorted by the waves. Instead, I discovered a pair of Great Crested Grebes – the first time I’d seen them close up in real life. They even performed their mating dance for me, which is beautiful to watch. It was worth lugging my camera and tripod to work and back!

Osterfeuer 2007

Osterfeuer 2007Am Samstag Abend haben wir Ostern im Wald gefeiert, zusammen mit Bekannte aus der Region. Wir haben gegrillt, gesungen und zum Abschluss gebetet, bevor wir uns mit Fackeln auf dem Weg nach Hause gemacht haben. Unser Fackel hat dem Wind nicht standhalten können – er hat aber zum Glück gebrannt, bis wir aus dem Wald waren. Wir hatten keine Taschenlampe dabei…
Am Sonntag war dann Osterbrunch in der Regiogemeinde in Allschwil – nochmals gutes Essen, Gespräche und spontane Kurzpredigten. Spannend und schön.

Spring again

Kiss meSpring is back. We had a first Spring in November and December, then came something pretending to be Winter, and now the flowers are blooming again.
I’ve started using Adobe Lightroom to process my photos. It’s overkill if you just want to organise your snapshots (use Picasa or something similar), but if you’re serious about photography, it’s well worth a look. It’s a bit of a performance hog, but it works well for me – catalogueing and processing photos is reasonably fast and flexible.
(I’ve also started publishing my photos on Flickr, as well as our gallery.)

Ilanz

Andrea, one of our best friends, moved from Basel to Ilanz in eastern Switzerland late last year. We visited her for a few days in early February, and had a great time talking and going for walks in the beautiful surroundings. This is one of my favourite photos of our time there.

Lunar Eclipse

Yesterday’s lunar eclipse was apparently poorly visible in Switzerland because of cloud cover. Here, the sky was mostly clear, and I took a lot of photos. I haven’t had time to look at them properly yet, but on a quick scan through, this one looked about the best.
