Note to self: pack spare batteries

Several years ago, I drove through an interesting-looking area, and have long wanted to return — but could not remember exactly where it was. Yesterday, I drove around looking for it. I found it again, but the weather was too overcast for good photos. My camera battery was running low, so after a while looking in vain for an interesting shot, I drove on to look for other interesting spots in the area. In the late afternoon, I ended up at a place with a wonderful view of the Alps. Hoping that the battery would last long enough to capture the entire panorama, I started shooting… and only got two photos before the battery ran out. The photo above is all you’ll see of the wonderful view I had.

Next time, I’ll be careful to check the battery before I leave home, and take a spare with me.

Catching up on photos

Pretty Purple

In the past year, I’ve not had much time for photography, or to work on the photos I’ve taken. I’m catching up on the backlog now, and publishing the best ones as I find them. I’m very pleased how this one turned out; I knew it had potential when I first saw it on screen soon after taking it, but only got around to processing it yesterday. The best ones are for sale as prints or cards.

Just sold my first photo

Lost in the mist #3I’ve just sold my first photo over at Imagekind – Lost in the mist #3. I sold a few photos as greeting cards last Christmas, but this was my first “proper” photo sale. I didn’t earn all that much – but now that I’ve been discovered, the prices will rise fast, so get over there fast and start buying before the prices go through the roof 😉

The Fire Inside

Yesterday, we visited Glasi Hergiswil with our friends Hanni and Hannes. The Glasi is a glass-blowing museum and probably Switerland’s most successful glass producer. The museum is a well-presented history of glass and the factory, and also includes a number of experiments demonstrating properties of glass and what it can be used for. It’s well worth a visit!
Switzerland has had the heaviest snowfall in November since records began. The snow line is currently a little higher than our home, but most of the drive to Hergiswil was above the snow line. The few trees which still have their golden leaves looked beautiful against the snow.

More photos of our holidays

ConnecticutI’ve just posted some more photos of our visit to Pete & Christiane in Connecticut. On our first morning there, a family of deer wandered into the garden to feed. The two kids (the deer ;-)) started playing and running around, which was fun to watch. I managed to get a few photos.

Clematis #1

Today, Mary-Anne and I attended the first day of a mentoring seminar given by Wilf Gasser. It’s an interesting seminar, challenging us to think about how we learn, and how we can help others to learn. So far, I can heartily recommend it. Wilf presents the material very well.
During the lunch break, I discovered a bush with beautiful flowers, and took some of the best photos I’ve taken so far. Can anyone tell me what sort of flower this is?(It’s a Clematis)
