Back from Britain

Cam gives a concertSo, we’ve just arrived back from visiting my family in Britain. It was great to see them again after such a long time; the last time I saw my mum and sister was almost two years ago. We couldn’t work out when I had last seen my dad, but it was probably over three years ago! We had good talks, and saw my 3-year-old nephew Cam giving his second concert. He’s going to be the next Bruce Springsteen, or someone like that.

As I mentioned earlier, our Bed & Breakfast was more expensive than most places we stayed in the US. It had neither telephone in the room nor an internet connection! Hereford is also obviously a technological backwater, too, because there were no wireless networks within range, either. Apart from that, we can recommend the Somerville. It is in a good location close to the city, but quiet. The service is friendly, and the cooked breakfasts are great!
On Saturday evening, Dad organised a bonfire and fireworks – officially to celebrate Guy Fawkes’ night, but since everyone is leaving the country, perhaps it was more for that. Cam didn’t like the noise of the fireworks, which weren’t up to much anyway. The chat and food were the best bits.
On Sunday evening, I took Mary-Anne to a good Indian restaurant, the Jalsagor, in Hereford. It was only slightly cheaper than eating in Switzerland, but the food was far better than any Indian meal I’ve eaten in Switzerland or Germany.
Christiane infected Mary-Anne with entusiasm for slow cookers while we were visiting the USA, so we bought one in Britain. (In Switzerland, even specialty kitchen equipment shops looked at us uncomprehendingly when we wanted to buy one.) We’ll see what the next week brings in terms of meals. Watch this space!
